We are dancemakers, story tellers, and thinkers, seeking to raise the profile of modern dance in D.C. Through collaboration and performance, we challenge our bodies and minds to create meaningful art that evokes emotion and makes audiences think. We value a collective process that draws together people from diverse artistic backgrounds. We are Glade Dance Collective.

Policies

Audition to find dancers: Tuesday, December 17 from 6:30-8:30 pm (in-person)

  • This is an opportunity to connect with interested dancers to cast in your piece.

  • You are not required to use the audition and may choose your performers as you see fit.

  • The audition will include a variety of dance techniques and opportunities for improvisation to give choreographers opportunity to see dancers perform a range of styles.

  • You will have about 30 seconds to describe your planned piece for the assembled dancers.

  • If you cannot attend the audition in person, contact information and video links for interested dancers will be shared with you.

  • You are welcome to participate in the audition as a dancer yourself if you would like to perform in someone else’s work.

Informal Showing: January 25, 2:00-9:30, Dance Place’s Edgewood Arts Center

  • This event is the culmination of the NACHMO January Challenge, where you present your finished piece to our panel of adjudicators, your fellow NACHMO artists, and friends and family.

  • There will be a series of shorter informal showings over the course of this weekend. We ask that choreographers hold this weekend open until show date and times are confirmed.

  • Friends and family of NACHMO artists are welcome to attend the showings.

  • Attendees may watch other pieces while sitting in seats quietly, but any warming up or discussions must happen outside the studio (and leaving or entering the room must happen between pieces).

  • You will receive feedback from our panel of adjudicators, as well as fellow NACHMO artists.

  • You must attend in person and present a piece at one of the internal showing dates in order to complete your NACHMO experience, receive your choreographer stipend, and be eligible for selection for the theater show in February.

  • You are not required to stay for the entire time–the time slot for your assigned showing will be announced in mid-January. You are welcome (and encouraged) to stay for all showings and support your fellow NACHMO artists.

  • In the week following the showings, you will receive your feedback.

NACHMO DC Sampler Theater show: Saturday, February 15 (7:30 - 9:30 pm)

  • This is a public showcase of selected works created during the NACHMO DC 2025 January Challenge.

  • Pieces will be chosen for this show based on several factors, including recommendations from our panel of adjudicators, level of piece development, and representation of the breadth of NACHMO DC 2025 work.

  • Location: Atlas Performing Arts Center, Sprenger Theatre

Notes on process

  • Choreographers choose their own cast and schedule their own rehearsals.

  • Participants are encouraged to check in with one another regularly about health and safety, physical proximity, movement choices, and other boundaries.
